I am about to recieve my first syringes(4) in the mail, but I don't plan on using them all right away.
Can someone please tell me, do I need to refrigerate them?? Keep them warm??? Or just toss 'em in a cabinet somewhere???
Thanks in advance!!!

you can also store them anywhere it doesn't get too hot, a dresser drawer is ok.

i'll bring this up again, since there is controversary.

hip, what's the oldest PF syringe that you've had germinate?

Nan says a year tops. This is not my experience, necessarily, but I've never heard your take.

just wondering what you think since you've previously said that they'll last longer. any numbers? syringes good for 3+ years?!

oh, and another question, while I have your attention. what are the oldest gelcaps you've tried? 5+ yrs. old? would this work?
thanks, hip.

take care of you-self. beat that flu bug!

Peace,
Shaman

i've got some syringes that are a couple years old and still good [i always save the last cc for later liquid cultures], they've been stored in refridgeration inside ziplock baggies.
as for gel-caps, dunno, i eat them too fast to have any left from 5 years ago.

You know there is genetic variation in the spores. Some spores seem "hotter" than others... Quicker germination, more "robust" germination. I would not doubt that a potent spore syringe could last longer. On the other hand I have seen syringes stored right alongside that germinated weakly, took longer to germinate... And whose potency seem to decrease rapidly with time.

Do I have any hard science? No. Just an educated guestimate. I have had syringes that were 18 months old that eventually did germinate at 20% of the inoculation points, took forever to colonize, and never did fruit. The syringe was fine 6 months earlier, if a bit slow... But I was never really impressed with the potency of the spores in the syringe to start with...

Your mileage may vary.

Nan

i think you've got it right, nan.
germination rates decrease over time,
but this can be offset by using more.
